Tom Patterson Reeves passed away peacefully at Toronto Grace Hospital on Monday December 17th in his 95th year. Beloved first husband of the late Joyce Coulter; survived by his sister-in-law Alice Tarrant and brother-in-law Jim Asquith. He was a loving father to Pam Reeves (Gordon Liske), Linda Reeves and Tom Reeves, and a dearly beloved Grandpa to Trilby Reeves-Liske. He was also a loving Uncle to Anne, Tony, Mike, Suzie, Steven and Arthur. Tom was born and raised in Stockton in the County of Durham in England in 1924 and after traveling in Africa, Europe and America moved to Canada with his wife Joyce in 1952. His life was filled with purpose and love for his family and friends, as well as a fulfilling career in Design and Structural Engineering. Tom worked for more than 25 years as Manager of the Design Engineering and Construction Division, Physical Plant Department at the University of Toronto and was respected and adored and by his colleagues, peers and employees alike.

Tom loved the outdoors and traveled extensively, often to destinations with trail walking, including the Milford Trail in New Zealand and the Mount Everest Base Camp walk, both that had been on his bucket list for years. Staying physically active was second nature for Tom as he walked daily until the past few months. He became passionate about long distance running later in life, completing his first marathon at age 48 and going on to run several more marathons including Boston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit and Toronto among them. When he could no longer run due to knee problems, he replaced running marathons with “marathon-walks”, one every other weekend from spring to fall for many years.

Tom enjoyed crossword puzzles however once he discovered Sudoku it became his daily obsession solving puzzles daily. He also looked forward to his weekly visits to the pub with friends, which had been his tradition for many years. Tom cherished his relationships with family and friends and will be dearly missed by all.

A service of remembrance will be held Friday December 21, 2018 at 3:00pm in the chapel of Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home, 467 Sherbourne St., Toronto. If desired, donations can be sent to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.

In 1970-71 I worked in the Physical Plant Department at the University of Toronto, and that is where I met Pat (that is the name he was known by). It was my first job in Canada. That first Christmas, Pat and his wife Joyce invited me to spend the holiday season with them as I was on my own in a new country. I will never forget their kindness. We have been exchanging Christmas cards ever since. My condolences to the family in the loss of their dear father.
