Bill was born the only son and the youngest of seven children to Thomas and Martha McGee in St. Patrice de Beaurivage, a small farming town just south of Quebec City. For almost forty years Bill worked as a Bell Canada splicer in Montreal and in towns across Ontario. Snow, rain, wind and cold took a toll on his health, but the long shifts and early mornings did not keep him from supporting his kids and their activities as a hockey coach, ballet fan, swim meet timer and more. He loved working around the house, gardening, golfing, and skiing; trips to Kennebunkport, Maine, and sipping beer on Gooch’s Beach; reading about naval history and Irish history, and cheering for the Canadiens, Expos, Alouettes and Blue Jays.
Health challenges didn’t slow him down. After bypass surgery in his early seventies, Bill went on to build a deck, install a fence, and create a whole new backyard. He was strong, with a quiet confidence and determination. Bill was a devoted husband to Mary (nee Olsen), a loving father to Thomas (Georgia), Terence (Mariko), and Melissa, a caring brother to his sisters and in-laws, a cherished uncle to nieces and nephews, a loyal friend, and a generous neighbour. In his later years he excelled as a grandpa, mixing teasing, spoiling, and teaching practical lessons to the joy of his grandchildren, Emily, Liam, and Jack.
Thank you to the staff at Cardinal Ambrozic Houses of Providence who provided such amazing care and kindness for Bill and our family for over two years.
Bill was loved and cherished by many and will always be missed.
