North Dakota and then to Bloomington, Illinois where he attended Trinity High School. In 1962, he attained a degree in Electrical Engineering from Bradley University. Shortly thereafter, he and his parents moved to Torrance, CA. They loved being closer to Andy's sister, Mary Ann, and enjoyed the mild climate and oceanside living. Andy initially worked as an engineer for North American Aviation. One of his favorite projects was working on the team designing the instrument panel for the XB-70 Valkyrie, a prototype to the planned B-70 supersonic nuclear bomber. When the aerospace industry in Southern California started downsizing, Andy went back to school and earned a degree in computer programming. He worked as a computer programmer and data processor at various companies before retiring at a relatively young age.
Andy possessed a natural ability to solve electrical and mechanical problems. He built his own TVs and
stereos from kits, maintained his Dodge Dart, and repaired anything he could rather than buy something new. He was an avid amateur astronomer and always enjoyed looking at the night sky. He was thrilled to see the first images released from the James Webb telescope.
We will forever remember Andy as our beloved uncle. He laughed and played with us as children. He
answered our many letters and talked for hours on the phone. He easily picked up new technology and was able to Skype and use all social media to keep in touch. He enjoyed long walks and listening to current events on the radio.
He never missed a trip to Disneyland, happily joining us on every roller coaster ride!
The family would like to thank everyone who looked out for Andy as he grew older. He was truly blessed to have so many helping to keep him happy and healthy in his apartment home that he loved so much. Andy was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Ann Caratti. He is survived by his nephew, John F. Caratti Jr. (Mary Manning) and by his niece, Ann Olson (Bob) and his grandnieces, Cailyn and Meghan Olson and grandnephew, John (Jack) Olson.
A prayer service will be held for Andy at 4 pm on August 28, 2024 in the Chapel at St. Lawrence Martyr
Catholic Church located at 1900 S. Prospect Avenue, Redondo Beach, CA.
