Born in Manila, Philippines, Art grew up surrounded by the culture, family, and traditions that shaped the joyful, resilient man he would become. He later made his way to the United States, where he built a life rooted in service, family, and community. He proudly joined the United States Air Force, dedicating 20 honorable years to his country. After retiring from military service, he continued serving others for 27 years as a beloved checker at the LAAFB Commissary—a place that became his second home and where he formed lifelong friendships.
Art was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Lois Wood Ilustre, who passed at age 63. Though widowed, he carried her memory with him every day.
A devoted father, Art is survived by his children, Ashley Ilustre Lizama (37) and Adam Wood Ilustre (40), and was the proud grandfather of Makoa Lehia Likeke Galvez (16), who brought immeasurable joy to his heart. He is also survived by his mother, Dorothy Overly Ilustre (93), his sister Tina Nieva-Frick, and his brother Michael Celeridad. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jesse Celeridad.
Art was many things to many people: an essential member of the Commissary community, a friendly Uber driver who loved meeting new faces, an enthusiastic dancer, a movie lover, a sharp dresser, an active facebooker, and an undeniable foodie. He lived his life fully, joyfully, and without hesitation—embracing every moment as an opportunity to connect, laugh, and enjoy good food with great company.
He will be remembered for his humor, his generosity, and the warm, genuine way he made everyone feel welcome. His presence was a gift, and his absence will be felt deeply by all who knew and loved him.
Rest easy. Your memory lives on in the countless lives you touched and in the family who carries you forward with love. We love you to the moon and back!
