Barbara Jeanne Adams

83-year resident of Hermosa Beach, CA, Barbara Jeanne Adams, "Bonnie," peacefully passed away on October 2, 2009, at her home, surrounded by family. Born January 8, 1926, in Los Angeles, she lived on 24th Street in Hermosa for her entire life.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Janis Patten (Patrick) of Huntington Beach; her son Herb Adams (Karen) of Long Beach; Sandra Roderick (Tim) of Redondo Beach; granddaughters Camron White (Jimmy), Erin Brack (Dru), Brittany Roderick and Kelsey Adams; great grandchildren Noah Iida, Mackenzie Brack, and Jamison Brack; her sister, Lorraine Henry (Stan) of Boise, ID; niece Phyllis Jones (Mike); nephews Michael Henry (Dottie), Steve Henry (Robin), Jim Henry (Charlene), and all of their progeny. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence R. Adams, and her parents Herbert and Hazel Besant also long-time residents of Hermosa Beach, CA.

Bonnie had a great gift of dedicating herself to her surroundings - be it her family, her friends, or her community. She attended North School and Ocean View, and graduated from Pier Avenue Jr. High School and Redondo Union High School. After high school she worked for the United States Army at the Port of Embarkation during World War II, where she met her future husband Larry. She worked for the city of Hermosa Beach for many years, supported the early Junior Lifeguard program, the local Little League, the Job's Daughter's Activities and the Mira Costa High School sports programs. Subsequently, she became a great coordinator in the planning of her beloved Redondo Union High School reunions. Bonnie was also a very spiritual person. She was an early member of St. Cross Episcopal Church, and in her later years became a regular member of the Church of Religious Science. As a strong community activist, she was an original (1948) member of the Anchor's Children's Hospital Guild until her death, and enjoyed 45 years with the Anchor's bowling league.

Bonnie was a beautiful seamstress and talented in other home arts. She designed and hand painted tee shirts and sweatshirts sold at many local craft shows for many years. Travel was another of her passions. She and her husband traveled throughout South America visiting family and sightseeing. She toured China, Europe, Australia, and visited all 50 states. Her many cruises took her to Alaska, Mexico, through the Panama Canal, and along the rivers of Europe. In later years she was very active in planning bus trips for the Manhattan Beach Seniors to local casinos and on longer trips to Laughlin, Las Vegas, and Stateline.

Bonnie's love of her family and friends guided the way she lived her life. If you have met Bonnie, she most definitely touched your heart, and most assuredly, you touched hers. There will be a huge void in the lives of ALL who knew and loved her. She will remain in our hearts forever.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of Religious Science at 907 Knob Hill, Redondo Beach, CA 90277, on Friday, October 9th at 11o'clock in the morning . A reception at the Bluewater Grill, 665 N. Harbor Drive, Redondo Beach, CA 90277 will immediately follow the services.
