Carol Louise Hampton

Carolyn Louise Hampton was born on January 6, 1942, in Birmingham, Alabama to Thomas and Lucille P. Lee. She grew up, attended school in Birmingham and graduated from Wenonah High School with high honors. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at South Elyton Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Lanier.

In 1958, she married her longtime friend and love of her life, Andtwine Hampton. To this union she birthed three children, Antonio, Fransjuan, and Cecelia.

In 1959, Carol and Andtwine brought their firstborn son, Antonio, from Birmingham, Alabama to Compton, California to reside. It was here in California that Carol began her almost 30-year employment with Pacific Bell/AT&T. She started as an operator and retired as a manager over several different offices. She also served as a Specialist Coordinator for the Pioneers of America. This Organization was funded by AT&T and reached out to many convalescent homes and hosted celebrations for senior citizens.

Carol made a decision to raise her children at St Albert the Great Catholic Church and School in 1976. Soon after, she rededicated her life to Christ as a Catholic Christian. Under Father Joseph Lawless, she was honored to have her already baptized daughter, Cecelia, stand in as her "godmother." Carol later became a trusted and faithful member of St. Albert the Great Gospel Choir, under the instruction of Minister Ronald Eugene Taylor. Here she sang to her heart's content and has been known to lead upon certain occasions. She was energetic and alive! Her joyous expression was truly hard to contain. Carol loved her God and was grateful that the Catholic faith allowed her to have a more meaningful and intimate relationship with Him. She enjoyed her weekly Bible study fellowships and great church activities for almost 40 years.

Carol loved her family and her friends. She said what she meant and meant what she said. If she gave you her word, you could count on it! She was consistent, dedicated, and precise. She gave her all to those that she knew had a sincere need. In other words, she was not easily fooled. She enjoyed singing, collecting music albums and pictures. If you knew her, I am sure we now have a picture of you, too. She walked daily for years and faithfully did Yoga with Raquel by video.

Carol enjoyed life. She loved to travel with elected friends and family. She explored adventures both land and sea. Yes, she was alive in this place. She was a beautiful instrument of the Lord. She sang unlike any other. She loved good food, dancing, and really knew how to entertain.

She was a caregiver to several people, many of whom were unrelated. She often offered shelter in one of her properties or brought them to her own home and nursed them to health. She had a deep heart for people. Her personalized relationship with anyone was just that, personal and truly incomparable. Everyone she touched knew that they were special to her. She had a gifted way that allowed her presence in your life to be deeply acknowledged.

Carol Hampton was deeply rooted in God through Christ Jesus. Her seed was birthed and watered with love by God's Word. She began to grow and become a tree that was planted by still waters yielding her fruit in her season. When the storms of life did come, she was not moved from her foundation.

Carol's health began to fail in December of 2008. She was hospitalized for a season and out for another. At that time, she decided to live with her devoted, loving, and faithfully trusted daughter, Cecelia, her "godmother." For several months, one of her greatest joys was to have the Eucharistic committee (Joan Coleman) of St. Albert the Great Church come for a visit and bring her communion. It reminded her of the very act of kindness that blessed her mother (Lucille) in times of weakness. Like her mother, she often spoke of how God was the source and strength of her life.

On May 19, 2009, Carol took ill and was take to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Harbor City. On May 20, 2009, she lifted up her left hand to the Almighty god in the sight of two witnesses and stated, "It is well with my soul." She called out to her daughter and said, "Nette, don't worry about me, I am not in your hands anymore. Get some rest." That moment defined the proclamation of her joy peace, dedication and strength in her God. Her will to live was in Him. One day shy of two months, on July 18, 2009, Carol rested from her labor, for she had fought a good fight of faith and her God fought and was triumphantly victorious over each and every battle. She looked deeply into her daughter's eyes and released her spirit to her Almighty Father.

Her fruit returned to the earth from whence she came, saturating the foundation of her seed for she is of the great tree of life. Past generations have come and others, too, shall grow. This is our revelation, to be an example to her heritage and for her seed to be sown.

There was not one good thing that her Father withheld from her! Amen. Everything in Christ is yea and Amen!

Carol leaves to cherish her memory, her first love, Andtwine Hampton; three children: Antonio Maurice Hampton, Fransjuan Eugene Hampton, and Cecelia Lynette Hampton; six grandchildren: Terrance Hampton, Shauna Kena Myles, Angel Antoinette Williams, Sheleania Le-Jardine Hampton, Barry Craig Johnson, Jr., and Kachet La-Starr Hampton; one great-grandson, Jaree Lamont Scott; one step-sister, Liz Forge; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Lee; two nieces, Joni Forge and Toni Forge; four nephews: James Lee, Darren Lee, Freddie Lee, and Thomas Lee; one adopted grandson, Nicholas; one adopted granddaughter, Shera; one adopted niece, Ginger; several cousins, and other nephews and nieces, relatives and friends; and we don't forget Carol's trusted and loving companion, her dog, Mister.
