
Clancy Silva, a long time resident of the South Bay, passed away April 20, 2008 at his home in Carson, CA, surrounded by his children.
Clancy was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on February 14, 1924, to Manuel and Mary Silva, the second of four children. Clancy's father, a master sergeant in the US Army, moved the family from Hawaii to Port Townsend, WA in 1934 and then to the Moreno Valley, CA in 1938.
Clancy continued the family military tradition with a career in naval aviation, VJ/VU squadron, serving in both WWII (Purple Heart recipient) and Korea and later on the diplomatic fight crew as a naval attaché for the U.S. Ambassador to India. His naval career allowed him to see places in the world that most people only imagine. Retiring from the Navy in 1961, he settled in Manhattan Beach and began his career in the private sector at TRW, Inc. and Eaton. He married, had four children and was very active in the Knights of Columbus Chapter 4567, Manhattan Beach Little League and American Martyrs Boy Scouts. He was an avid outdoorsman, hiking many of the mountains of the West that he loved so much.
He is survived by his children, Samuel Silva and wife, Kendra, of Cathedral City, CA; Rebecca Silva, of San Pedro; CA, Lisa Beardsley and husband, Jim, of Cathedral City, CA; Tina Ferrigno and her husband Ciro, of San Pedro, CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristofer, Candice, Kameron, Kieffer, Collin, Ryan, Nicholas, Kristina, Michelle, Ciro Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at White & Day Chapel, Manhattan Beach on Thursday, April 24th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. followed by the Rosary at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach at 7:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at American Martyrs Church Friday, April 25th at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of life will immediately follow in the parish center with burial at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.
