Edward David Givins

Dr. Edward Givins, of Palos Verdes Estates, died suddenly on January 21st while enroute, with his wife, Jackie, to his favorite get-away, Mammoth Mountain. He was 71 years old.

During his years in practice as an Orthodontist, Ed brought beautiful smiles to the faces of the many children from the South Bay that he treated. His office was never a place to be feared, but rather a place to have fun.

Ed was a "Man For All Seasons". There were never enough hours in the day for him to explore all his interests and develop all his talents. He skied, he swam, he sailed, and he was an avid golfer. As a fisherman, he designed and made his own flies - and, to round out his talents, he was a wonderful artist. Some of his paintings can be seen on the walls of the Palos Verdes Country Club.

Ed was also a man for all "Seasonings." As an excellent chef, he complemented his cuisine with numerous herbs, vegetables and fruits which he grew in his garden. He made gourmet dinners for friends, and sometimes for charities. His Olalla berry jam, made each year from home-grown berries was "world-class".

But over and above all else, Ed was a family man whose first priority was always his wife of 40 years, Jackie, and his children, Joanne, John, and Jim. When the children married, moved north, and started families of their own, Mammoth took on new meaning as a place where they could all meet, enjoy each other, and enjoy the events of the different seasons.

Ed is survived by his wife, Jackie, daughter Joanne Carolan (Jeff), sons John (Jen) and Jim (Autumn), six adored grandchildren, sister Rosemary Young (Russ) and many other loving relatives and friends to whom he will always be a role-model for living life to its fullest . . . truly a Renaissance man!
