Eugene "Gene" France

Passed away on November 16, 2025, at the age of 82, at his home in Redondo Beach, CA with his wife Maureen and daughter Cindy by his side.

Gene was born May 5, 1943, in Hawthorne, CA. the only child to Raymond and Betty France (Jones).

Gene attended Redondo Union High School, and started working as a deckhand on tugboats at the Redondo Beach Pier at the age of 14.

Gene worked on boats for 50+ years. He was a Captain for several different tugboat companies, Foss Maritime was where he spent most of his career, retiring at the age of 67.

Gene was a very responsible and caring person, always there for his family and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Betty, and sons, James and David. He is survived by his wife Maureen, daughter Cindy, grandson Nick, son-in-law Dan, and his extended families in Arizona, Oregon, and San Diego along with many friends.

We will miss him terribly, but he will always be in our hearts and never forgotten. Rest in Peace Gene/Dad, we love you.

A Memorial Service will be held at Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions, Rice Center, located at 5310 Torrance Blvd, Torrance, California. The service is scheduled for January 10, 2026, starting at 11:00 am.

Reception to follow at The Moose Lodge #1873, 516 N. Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach, California 90278. (Please enter at rear entrance off Guadalupe Avenue.) 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
