Ian was born on August 1, 1988. He was raised in Hermosa Beach and attended Hermosa View and Valley Schools. Ian was an extremely talented athlete. He played every sport growing up, but excelled at soccer and was recruited to the Olympic Development Team at a young age. His life changed when he discovered football. During his freshman year at Mira Costa High School he was called up to the varsity team for CIF playoffs. He played three years on the varsity team scoring countless touchdowns at Tight End and making big plays on Special Teams. After graduating from Mira Costa in 2006, he played under Coach John Featherstone at El Camino College and ultimately went on to play at the University of Southern California under Coach Pete Carroll. Ian graduated from USC in 2010 with a degree in Sociology.
Ian was a loving, kind and compassionate soul who took the role of protector very seriously. He loved helping others which is why he became a police officer for the City of Torrance. In 2014 Ian was awarded the highest honor, the Medal of Valor, for rescuing a woman from a burning car.
While Ian achieved anything he set his mind to, his biggest accomplishment was who he was as a person. Ian was a gentle giant who cared deeply for others. He began his philanthropic journey at American Martyrs Church as a teenager, building homes in Tijuana and distributing meals to the homeless on Skid Row. He was a bright light with a contagious smile and a big boisterous laugh. He truly wanted to make the world a better place.
Ian is survived by his mother Christina, stepfather Khurt, sister Tierney, brother Traci, brother-in-law Casey, nieces Sienna and Olivia, grandparents Miguel and Anita, aunts, uncles and cousins.
