Dec. 5, 1936 - Sep. 18, 2009
Jan passed away peacefully, her family at her side, in Torrance, CA. She was born in December, 1936, in Alton, Illinois and moved permanently to California in 1960. Jan graduated from Roxana High School in Illinois as a National Merit Scholar then graduated Summa Cum Laude from Cal State Dominguez Hills with a BA in English. Jan's interests included travelling, cooking, reading, movies, the theater arts, her home, and particularly her children and grandchildren. She was involved with several charities highlighted by her volunteer work for the South Bay Women's Auxiliary for the Los Angeles Children's Hospital, starting in 1995. She served as President of the Auxiliary for 3 years starting in 1996 and has been on the Board of Directors since. This all-volunteer organization raises money to support children of families that cannot afford medical care. Jan's gift for helping and advising others stands as the hallmark of her many qualities. She has guided countless people on the process of receiving a higher education and the steps necessary to graduate. Her impact here goes far beyond her immediate family and will always serve as her legacy. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bill; daughter and son-in-law Jacquie & Bob Stiffler; daughter-in-law and son Debbie & Chris Haas; and grandchildren Amber and RJ Stiffler.
