Dear Jackson Family,      I wanted to express my deepest sympathy on Mr. Jackson's passing.  He was my third grade teacher at Prospect Heights Elementary School in Hermosa Beach in 1976.  He was the first teacher that made an impression on me and started me on the road to want to learn.  He started a chess club and got me to join and taught me how to play.  I still play chess today because of him.  He taught me my multiplications with this game, where you pull the numbers and get the answers.  I'm looking for that same game for my son now.  He was such wonderful teacher and a caring person, that I have such fond memories of him.  I can only hope my children will experience a teacher as I did with Mr. Jackson. I am the secretary at Hermosa Valley School and Mr. Jackson ran the lunchtime chess club here for the last several years and I had a chance to get to know him during that time.  He was always kind with a good sense of humour and the kids really loved having chess club with him.  He always remembered me with a beautiful bouquet of flowers from his garden at the end of chess club each year.  I will miss him.

For the past 12 years I have had the  pleasure of knowing John. He would come to Hermosa Valley school every October and we would view our school calendar for dates and a room for him to use for his lunchtime chess club....I saw him this past fall and he shared that he would be taking a wonderful trip this fall.  I remember how excited he was about the trip and all the planning he had done to get ready....I will remember the smile and his excitement from that day....my deepest sympathy to his wife, son and Jennifer.... Dear Jackson Family,      Mr. Jackson was my and my brother's 3rd and 4th grade teacher from 1980-1982.  He was the most inspiring teacher I ever had.  He was always respectful to me and all of my classmates and had the highest expectations for all of us.  I am now a 4th grade teacher myself and continually give credit to him for choosing this field.  Over the years my mother would sometimes give me updates of what he was up to, like when he retired and continued the Chess Club.  Though I haven't seen him in many years I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Dear Jackson family,      I just read of Mr. Jackson's passing and wanted to express my condolences. Mr. Jackson was my third and fourth grade teacher from 1981-83, and he gave me so many opportunities to learn and grow. Though I thought he was tough at the time, I know he challenged me in ways that have made me successful today. I last saw him at a retirement party for a fellow Hermosa View teacher about 10 years ago.
