John Marvin Jackson, long time Manhattan Beach resident, passed away on December 23rd at his home. He was 80 years old. John graduated from Redondo Union High School, El Camino College, UC Berkley ans recieved his masters from UCLA. He taught in the Hermosa Beach City School District for 38 years. Following his retirement in 1993 he continued to run a weekly lunch hour chess club for the children of Hermosa Valley School. He was also the founder of the Manhattan Beach Library Chess Club. He will be greatly missed by his wife Juleen, son Michael (Sid), daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Terry Yamamoto, granddaughter Marlee Yamamoto and many other family members and friends. Plans for a farewell party are pending.
