Johnny “Doc” Torres Jr., 55, died on November 3, 2023 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. John was born on October 23, 1968 in Oroville, California to Rachel Torres and Johnny Torres Sr. He spent his childhood in Los Angeles playing basketball and rooting for the Dodgers, Raiders, and Lakers. In 1990, he welcomed his son, Johnny Torres III, into the world, and spent the rest of his years as a devoted and loving father. In 2015, he met his partner, Ariana O’Neal, and together they lived out his lifelong dream of living in an RV and traveling all over the United States. His new favorite role in life was that of Grandpa to his granddaughter Eloise, who was born in 2022.
John had the natural talent and personality to make loved ones laugh no matter the circumstances, and was an uncannily accurate judge of character. He was known for “telling it like it is” and could convince anyone of almost anything. He will be remembered by for his quick wit, love of music (1970s rock more than all else!), excellent karaoke skills, razor sharp intelligence, and fierce devotion to his family.
John is survived by his partner, Ariana O’Neal; his son, Johnny (Hannah) Torres and his granddaughter Eloise; his mother, Rachel Torres; his brothers and sisters Jimmy Torres, Sarah (John) Forsythe, Fabian Torres, Linda Torres, and Daniel Torres; and many in-laws, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, other extended family, and friends. Waiting for him on the other side are his father and stepmother, John and Linda Torres; his brother, Steven Garcia; and his faithful four-legged companion of over 14 years, Buddy.
A celebration of life will be held on December 2, 2023 from 1-3pm at Halverson Stone & Meyers Mortuary, 1223 Cravens Avenue, Torrance, California. A reception will follow from 3-7pm at the VFW, 1805 W. Lomita Blvd., Lomita, California.
