Katherine Jensen, 93, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, as a result of kidney failure. She is survived by her son Mark and daughter-in-law Linda, of nearby Hawthorne. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Henry Jensen, in 2002. She was a well-liked resident of the Villa Sorrento Retirement Home in Torrance.
The daughter of John and Sophie Olsen of North Troy, she graduated from Powers and Leonard Elementary Schools, Lansingburgh High School, and Troy Business College.
She began her career in 1930 as a switchboard operator for Malleable Iron Works in Watervliet. She later worked as paymaster at Autograph Brush Company of Troy, and Tek-Hughes of Watervliet. She was office manager at Kelly Clothes of Troy for twenty years, until retiring in 1975.
Katherine and Henry lived in Speigletown for fifty years, and spent much of their leisure time at their rustic vacation camps in Grafton and Lake George. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and playing canasta and bridge. She also led many creative projects for the Rensselaer County Home Bureau. After retirement, she served as secretary and treasurer of the Speigle-Elders senior citizens club, and organized numerous bus trips for the group.
She was a communicant of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Lansingburgh until moving to California in 1998. Although she missed her friends in Troy, she enjoyed living in California very much, and was especially fond of the mild winters.
Henry and Katherine will be buried together at 11:00am on Friday May 12, at Montecito Memorial Park, 24145 Barton Road, Loma Linda, California 92354.
