Lester Ozon Higgins “ran on to Glory” early Friday morning, December 8 2023. He was born October 20, 1952. Lester passed peacefully at the Tibor Rubin Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Long Beach, California. Lester was married to his wife, Jo Etta Brown-Higgins, for 32 years. His wife and family held constant prayer vigils.
Lester was born in New York, New York, to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Bibbs and Bertie Lee (Jeter) Higgins. Lester was the second of five children. His parents moved to Terre Haute, Indiana, while he was yet at an early age where his education began at Booker T. Washington Kindergarten. Lester attended Catholic elementary school at St. Patrick’s Elementary, and at the St. Patrick’s Parish completed his First Communion and Confirmation. Lester also served as an Alter Boy in the church. Lester’s early childhood activities included Charles Hyte Community Center, Vigo County 4-H Club, and Catholic Youth Organization sports programs. Lester was also one of the students from area Catholic Schools to perform in the “King and I” theatrical production held at St. Mary of the Woods College. Lester attended Catholic high school at Paul Schulte High. Lester’s activities as a “Golden Bear” included distinguishing himself as a member of the basketball team and track team. Lester also participated in the audio-visual club, and others.
Lester voluntarily enlisted in the United States Air Force immediately after high school graduation. Lester attended Cleveland Institute of Electronics which served him in his Air Force duties. Lester served in the Philippines in the Vietnam Era War. He returned home with an honorable discharge.
A changed man upon return, God took front and center stage in his life. After many years of preaching in local churches, Lester was ordained in ministry by the late Dr. John B. Bradley through the University of Holy Ghost Theology. He walked in his calling of Apostle and Prophet.
In addition, through Lester’s career positions over the years - U.S. Postal Service carrier and supervisor, Greyhound Bus Lines driver, and Commercial trucking services logistics– Lester never failed in faithful service in prayer for his family, friends, co-workers and others. “The multitudes” have been blessed, from coast to coast, by Lester’s faithful service in prayer.
The vision given to Lester by God was the founding of the Kingdom Citizens of Yahweh in 1991. Lester believed in his lineage of the 12 tribes of Israel, House of Judah, and preached Yeshua Hamashiach (Jesus the Messiah).
Upon the news of Lester’s death to his classmates from Paul Schulte High, the very first was – [“Very sad to hear about Lester. He was loved by everyone!” – Michael Grohovsky.] His closest and oldest friend, Charles Schacklee, shared these thoughts with family:
I am so glad he and I had the chance to talk for close to an hour. Thank you for the number. Lester was my oldest friend. We had a lot of great times together. He and I could talk about anything. When we grew up, I always knew he had my back, and he knew that I had his. (Sometimes John had to bail us both out). I always looked forward to his occasional visits and/or phone calls. I never knew when I’d see him or talk to him but when we got together, it was like we’d never been apart. I’m very sorry for your loss….
Lester’s brother, John William Higgins, United States Navy veteran, predeceased him. His sibling sisters, Mrs. Candy Higgins-DiMeo, Mrs. Jewel Tolliver-Robinson and Mrs. Laura Lewis, Esq., honored Lester with constant love and support. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Jo Etta, three sons, grandchildren, nephews and nieces, cousins, and a host of loved ones and friends.
