Lyle Eugene Egan was born on September 12, 1909 in North Dakota, the second of four children to Pierce and Hazel. He passed away at home on April 12, 2007 in Manhattan Beach, California. During his nearly 30 years of service in the California Youth Authority he was instrumental in making dramatic innovations. He was most proud of the rehabilitation programs he established at the Youth Training School in Chino. He believed if you could teach the youth a vocation, trade, or a skill, that he had a chance to succeed upon his release. The Lyle Egan High School operates at the Youth Corrections facility in Chino, CA. He retired from the California Youth Authority in Chino, CA as Deputy Director.
In his retirement, he became a consultant/lobbyist representing CSEA in Sacramento. In 1999, he relocated to Southern California with his loving wife Mary to live with his son and family. Lyle enjoyed playing golf, watching all sports and making an occasional wager on the ponies with his friends. He passed this legacy to his son. His wife Mary preceded him in death in December 2003. His son Lyle Jr., daughter-in-law Colleen and granddaughter Kelly survive him.
