Mary was an amazing lady! I got in touch with her about 2016-17 as I was trying to learn more Vagnoni family history. She was a great help and we had wonderful conversations on the phone! My mother, Laura Augostini Cory and Mary were cousins and she told me tender stories about herself and my mother and how close they were. Her memories of my mother, who I lost in 2000 warmed my heart. She was and is a great soul. I am blessed to have known her even if just for a little while.

she was an amazing lady.  She had class, intelligence and a big heart.  She will be missed.  We shared a lot in common and we both loved our families.  She always had great things to say about her children and her family both here and in Italy.  I will miss all the conversations we use to have.

Mary Gabrielli Fernandez, Nonna, at age 95, passed away on October 30 in Torrance, CA. My Mom had a fall at home in February and spent her next 254 days struggling and medicated to recover in a hospital bed. Born in 1929 in Italy, in the small mountain commune of Offida, she immigrated to NYC at the age of four, had to repeat kindergarten in Red Bank, NJ, (because she spoke no English), became a master of the English language soon after, enjoyed a bit of coffee with her sugar every morning and a bit of red wine with her fruit and ice every afternoon, kept us all on our toes with her brilliant wit, sang memorized songs every day, recited poetry (especially the entire sonnet on the Statue of Liberty), and smiled and joked throughout her last days in care. She had many long-time friends around the world, including Italy, Costa Rica, and in many US states.
