Mary G. Saavedra

Mary G. Saavedra cherished mother and beloved grandmother died peacefully at home on April 8, 2009 surrounded by her family. Born in Capitan, New Mexico on January 5, 1925, she was a longtime resident of Hermosa Beach and later Gardena. In passing, she reunites with her husband of 52 years, Sylvester. She is survived by their large and loving family including their four sons Tony Saavedra (Susan) of Torrance, Eloy Saavedra (Justine) of Sahuarita, Arizona, Paul Dino Saavedra of Hermosa Beach and Jose Saavedra (Lauren) of Lake Helen, Florida and their three daughters Sylvia Westphal (Larry) of Torrance, Esther Bloom of Redondo Beach and Carmen Hansen (Ron) of Gardena. She was Grandma to many and Big Grandma to even more. Survivors also include her brother Raymond Gonzales (Letha) of New Mexico, a large extended family and many friends. She was a passionate and strong woman, and her fire lives on in her offspring. She loved us, but she was tired. We loved her, but we let her go. Fiat voluntas tua.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Rice Mortuary Chapel on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. with a Rosary service at 7:00 P.M. The funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Hermosa Beach on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 10:00 A.M.
