

Neil Wayne Getman passed away peacefully on August 31, 2017. He was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, son of Leona and Clinton Getman on November 8, 1937. He was the second of three siblings and was preceded in death by his older sister Barbara (Rang). His younger brother, Jay resides in Monterey Park, California.
Neil was a U.S. Veteran, having joined the US Navy in 1955 and completed two Western Pacific tours of duty. In 1960, Neil moved to Santa Maria, California with his first wife Carol (Belfrage) and in 1962 started a family with the birth of his daughter Cristi. Carol passed away in 1982.
Neil spent the majority of his career working for General Motors in Santa Maria and the Santa Barbara Research Center (SBRC) in Goleta, California as a Production Control Analyst. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Redlands.
In 1989, Neil relocated to Rolling Hills when he and Ilse married. He was an avid collector of books, coins, stamps, and autographs. He enjoyed the hunt as much as the found treasure.
Neil will be missed dearly, but always remembered. He is survived by his wife Ilse, daughter Cristi and husband Mark Smith of Goleta, CA, step-daughter Romy and husband Steve Nathan, step-son Bryan, brother Jay and husband Julio, grandsons Mathew, Cole, Jack, and Max.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 am, Thursday September 7th at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Rancho Palos Verdes. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
