
On November 19, 2005 Paul Vernon Struble Jr., of South Torrance, passed away. Paul was born on October 27, 1917 in Toledo, Ohio. His parents were German immigrants, Paul and Ginny Struble. Paul was blessed with an easy and gentle passing, a combination of old age and a diabetic condition. He was 88 years old. At his request, there will be no services. His ashes will be blended with that of his beloved wife of 64 years, Dolores, who preceded him in death on October 23, 2004. Their ashes will be then scattered in their much loved Hawaii by the family.
Paul has lived in the South Bay since 1946, moving here from his native Ohio. He was a lumber salesman and a carpenter by trade, retiring in the early 1980’s. Paul Struble was a man’s man, from the era that has been labeled the Greatest Generation. He grew up in the Depression Era and that experience forged him into the man he was. He answered his country’s call at the outbreak of WWII. He joined the Navy and rose to the rank of Chief. He spent three and a half years in the South Pacific with the Navy’s Seabees. He was old school and proud of it. Paul was a hard worker and a devoted family man. He was a conversationalist and loved a good debate. He was a man of quick wit. He liked to tease and joke, torturing the ones he loved with a sly grin. He was well liked and respected by all that made his acquaintance. He loved to brag about his family to anybody who would listen. He enjoyed “High Roller†status at Harrah’s Laughlin, deep sea fishing, golf, the Lakers, and telling his wealth of stories. Paul and Dolores loved Hawaii and traveled there often for many years. They had made many “local friendsâ€. aloha oi to the Kau clan of Oahu. He also will be remembered by his neighbors, for his love of a good cigar, out on his front porch. He will be missed by all and especially by his old cat, Scruffy.
Paul returned to his beloved Dolores after the war and nine months and one day after he returned, their first of seven children was born. Always with the wit, he liked to say, “That putting down my duffel bag was the second thing I did!†He is survived by all seven of his children. Janie Allen, Debbe Heberer (Robb), Teri Zwieback (Jeff), Paul Struble III, Jeff Struble (Karol), Craig Struble (Carla) and Gretchen Cain (Jim). He has 15 grandchildren. They are Gabe Stine (Wendy), Heidi Linscomb (Chris), Megan Westcott, Molly Heberer, Zack Heberer, Craig Barnes (Sarah), Dustin Struble, Shane Struble, Max Struble, Kristen Struble, Lillian Struble, Anjelica Struble, Jesilyn Cain, Leah Cain and Ua Cain. He is also survived by 5 Great Grandchildren. They are Ashton, Ethan, and Cassidy Stine and Jackson and Klara Linscomb. Paul loved that he was called “Bopper†by Jackson. He was truly the “Big Bopperâ€.
