Philo was born in Fayette Utah. The family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1923. Philo attended school and graduated from Las Vegas High with honors in 1940. At this time Philo moved to southern California to attend aeronautics school. He graduated in 1941 with his A&E license. He accepted employment with Lockheed/Vega where he was a flight line mechanic.
After several months he joined the Merchant Marines and served on oil tankers in the south pacific through the end of WWII.
He met his future wife Marian Walker on St Patrick’s day and married her on 12/15/1945.
Their life together began in San Pedro. In 1950 where they purchased there home In Torrance Where they raised two children and were married for 60 years. Marian died from cancer in 2006.
Mr. Mellor passed away from pneumonia at Torrance memorial hospital on 07/31/2010.
He leaves behind an older brother Warren daughter Kathy and son Gary, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
