Bill Krodel, Recording Engineer Extraordinaire, passed away on September 19, 2008 in Torrance, CA of complications from aplastic anemia disease.
Born in Glendale, CA on July 22, 1949, Bill lived in the South Bay all his life. A 1967 grad of North Torrance High, he also attended El Camino College as a music major. His musical talent was evident at an early age; at 14 years old, he was the sole piano accompanist for the entire ceremony of his 8th grade school graduation.
During the 1960's and 1970's, he played keyboards and guitar for several area bands, such as The Pie and Awning Company, Blind Owl and Ambrosia. In the late 1970's he began his career as a recording engineer. He owned Opus I Studio in Torrance for several years.
Later, he was engineer/producer for area studios such as Pendragon, Jet City and Media Kitchen. He worked with such bands as Guns and Roses, Seinsfeld, Pennywise, and Motorhead. He also recorded opera singers, rap artists, gospel choirs, and even relaxation therapists!
A member of the Torrance Marriott health club since 1995, Bill could frequently be found playing the piano in the lobby for the enjoyment of all who passed by.
Bill's outgoing personality and musical ability will be sorely missed by many, many friends and relatives. A memorial celebration of his life will take place in the near future, date to be announced.
Donations in his name can be made to any area animal shelter, or please donate blood through the Red Cross or UCLA Harbor Medical Center.
Bill has left the studio, but his musical spirit will remain with us always.
