

Constance “Connie” J. Howell, age 78, of Traverse City passed away peacefully Saturday, December 12, 2015 with her family by her side. She was born November 4, 1937 in Detroit to Max and Clara (Kowslowski) Kanter.
On May 30, 1959, Connie married the love of her life, Edwin Lee Howell in Detroit at Transfiguration. Together they raised five children.
Connie graduated from St. Florian High School in 1955 where she was a cheerleader. She went on to become a Registered Nurse. She received that degree from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital’s nursing program. Connie worked for St. Joe’s for 15 years and then went on to work for Mt. Clemens General where she was the Nursing Supervisor for over 20 years. She retired in 1991.
When she wasn’t lovingly taking care of or transporting her five children to different sporting events, Connie loved to Golf. She was president of the Partridge Creek Golf Club. A great day of golfing wasn’t complete without a game or two of Euchre with her girlfriends at the club. She also loved to bowl and was on the St. Joe Bowling League for many years. Connie was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City.
Connie will be greatly missed by her husband of 56 years Edwin Howell of Traverse City; five children: Douglas (Carol) Howell of Waterford, Hilary (Christopher) Strickland of Traverse City, Kristin (James) Mote of New Haven, Matthew Howell of Traverse City, and Wendy (Scott) Stevelinck of Lyons, CO; 12 grandchildren:Haley, Spencer, Cameron, Alex, Grahm, Carly, Emily, Megan, Jacob, Sydney, Sarah, and Sean; a brother Carl Kanter of Imlay City, and her beloved Yorkie, Dickens.
Besides her parents, Connie was preceded in death by a brother Max Kanter.
A Memorial service will be held Friday, December 18, 2015 at 7 p.m. at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. Family will greet friends beginning at 5 p.m.
Memorial contributions in Connie’s name may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Services are being planned for downstate after the first of the year. This website will be updated once those times have been confirmed.
