

Dorothy June (Flees) Walters, age 86, went to our Lord on October 27, 2014. Born June 28, 1928 in Flushing, Michigan to the late Domazy and Mary Flees. She lived most of her childhood in Suttons Bay. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Leo Walters.
She was an amazing homemaker and a wonderful mother. Dorothy loved to bake (especially her banana bread and home made bread). She loved to sew and spend time with her family. She had a talent to grow many beautiful plants over the years. She worked at the phone company and Essex Wire. She took care of infants through Catholic Social Services as a foster parent for many years. She enjoyed working for Munson Home Care for over 15 years until she retired at age 75. She was a member of St. Francis Church, Altar Society and Variety Club. She also volunteered at funeral luncheons.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Leo Walters, her brothers Firmin (Emma, Vonnie) Flees, William (Lois, Jerry) Flees and John (Ricarda) Flees, and her sisters Margaret Flees, Florence Flees and Frances (Pete) Walters.
Loving mother of her children Michael (Pam) Walters, Elaine (Sayeed) Wahab, Nancy (Brian) Bishop, Cynthia Walters, Daniel (Sue) Walters, and Kevin (Shelly) Walters. She is survived by her sisters Patricia (Fred) Brown and Diane (Dave) Wilson, and her brother Jim (Phyllis) Flees. Dorothy was blessed to have 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Covell Funeral Home 232 E State St, Traverse City on Friday October 31 from 1-3 pm. Visitation will be available on Saturday November 1 starting at 10 am at St Francis Catholic Church 1025 S Union, Traverse City, followed by a rosary at 11:30 am. Catholic Mass will begin at noon. Burial will follow at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens at 3575 Veterans Drive, Traverse City. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Meals on Wheels, 3963 Three Mile Road, Traverse City, Commission on Aging –In Home Services, 520 W Front St, Ste B, Traverse City. Donations can also be made to St Francis Catholic Church to support the building of a chapel. A special thank you from the Walters family to Hospice of Michigan and the Heart Failure Clinic at Munson Hospital for exceptional care over the last year.
