He graduated from Havana High School in 1949 and went on to receive his certificate from Worsham College of Mortuary Science. Ken married Sarah Cooper Brown on September 26, 1953 in Mt. Vernon, OH. Together they had three sons. He worked for Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, IL and later for Murphey Funeral Home in Canton, IL. After retirement, Ken and his wife sold the house and bought a sail boat and an RV. They lived on the sailboat for 5 years, traveling through all the great lakes and the intercoastal water way. They also spent 2 summers in the RV traveling across the country. After their travels, Ken and Sarah settled in Honor where Ken also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and collecting antique duck decoys. Ken was a Power Squadron Captain, a member of the Toast Masters, and the Optimist Club. He was also very active in the Episcopal Church.
