

Maurice married Shirley Butcher on October 16, 1965 in Lapeer. Together they raised two children. Maurice worked as an educator for over 35 years. He worked at Lapeer Middle School for two years. The majority of his career was at Carman-Ainsworth High School as an English teacher. Finally, he worked for the University of Michigan-Flint for four years.
Maurice enjoyed being a part of his church choirs and also the community choir groups. He was active in the Boy Scouts and served as a leader for many years. Maurice loved camping, fishing, gardening, and woodworking, but there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his family.
Maurice will be greatly missed by his wife Shirley; son Rob (Juli) Ackley and daughter Erin Ackley; Grandchildren: Riley and Maya Truog; sister Midge (Gary) Bentley; sister-in-law Dora Butcher, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, Maurice was preceded in death by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the Lodge at Cherry Hill Haven for their kindness and compassion that was given to Maurice over the past year.
According to Maurice’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service is being planned for late spring.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Maurice’s name may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
