Born in Hemingway, South Carolina, on April 21, 1941, Alan was a son of the late Rufus Jackson Cribb and the late Ruby Harmon Cribb. Following one year at the University of South Carolina, he very proudly served in the U.S. Army, including time in Fulda, Germany. He was an avid reader of U.S. military history and an enthusiastic collector of World War II memorabilia. After leaving the military, Alan spent his career working in sales until he retired in 2006.
Alan was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Verna Westbury Cribb, who passed away in 2008. He was a devoted husband with a deep love for his wife and provided loving care to her throughout her illness. He was also preceded in death by his older brother, Lawrence Rufus Cribb.
Alan is survived by his two sons, Jeff and Steven Cribb, their wives, Judy Cribb and Gina Monroy, and his eight year old grandson who was his pride and joy in his later years, Jackson Cribb. In 2014, Alan left Savannah, Georgia, where he had resided for 40 years to move to Atlanta, Georgia where he could be close to his family.
Alan took great pride in his family and being able to provide for them, boasted of every accomplishment of his two sons, and loved everything and anything related to his grandson. He loved to talk and share stories with anyone who would listen, made friends wherever he went, and never failed to offer advice and assistance to those in need. Outside of his family and close friends, his other interests included sports and politics, spending much of his free time writing to newspapers to provide his opinion on current topics. He was also an avid lover of animals who took in many strays over his lifetime and provided them with a caring home.
A private family memorial service will be held in his honor. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. His grandson, Jackson, would like everyone to know that his Papa was very proud of his family and loved us all very much.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.floralhillsfuneral.com for the CRIBB family.
