Debra Elizabeth Lowman

Debra was born on August 7th 1966 in Passaic, New Jersey to Kenneth and Ernestina (Lugo) Lowman. She grew up in Lincoln Park, New Jersey and Acton, Massachusetts, graduating from Acton-Boxboro Regional High school in 1984. Debra was an incredibly gifted artist and pursued her passion for creating amazing art by graduating from the University of Massachusetts in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Computer Graphics, and later pursuing a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a focus on Computer Animation. Debra put her talents to work at Turner Broadcasting network, earning an Emmy in 1997 for her virtual set design for TNT Pro Football Tonight and TNT inside the NBA. She earned a second Emmy in 2002 for her work on Swamp Theater Open. More recently, Debra was employed by Epic Tech as an animator.

Debra is survived by her husband Scott and sons Jake and Henry Melchionda of Tucker, Georgia; parents Ken and Tina Lowman of Centerville, Massachusetts; sister Karen Lowman and her husband Michael Burke, and niece and nephew Eden and Liam Burke of Easthampton, Massachusetts. Debra will also be missed by her dear friend Bryan Beck of Buford, Georgia, with whom she shared many happy moments over the past three years. Debra also leaves behind her two cats Mavis and Midge, whom she loved dearly.

Debra had an enormous love of nature and the outdoors. She took regular trips to the paper-mill ruins at Sope Creek and the shores of Cape Cod, Massachusetts and Holden Beach, North Carolina where she enjoyed the natural scenery and drew inspiration for her art. Masterfully rendered, her fantastical depictions of mythical beings in stunning, natural settings characterized her body of work. In recent years, she traveled to to Norway, Iceland, and Greenland with her sons and Bryan, places she had wanted to visit her entire life. A memorial service to remember Debra’s life is planned for Monday, December 10th at 2:00 pm at the Floral Hills Funeral home in Tucker, Ga. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Debra’s name to Bat Conservation International or Breastcancer.org.
