Donald Ray Hilgendorf, age 94, died of complications from Parkinsons, on Saturday, June 15, 2019, in a nursing home in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Don is survived by three sons: Craig and Jim Hilgendorf in Chicago, Paul in Atlanta, and by daughter Anne Kunz in Stone Mountain. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Lois, and son Mark. Don was born on May 19, 1925 in Beloit Wisconsin, to Bernard and Ada Hilgendorf. He served in a US Navy submarine for three years, from 1943 to 1946. He attended the University of Wisconsin for two years, then accepted a position in Transamerica, where he worked for 27 years, then the NBD bank for another 11. Don was a great family man and loving father. He married Lois Stevenson in 1952 and the couple raised five children together. Don was an enthusiastic church goer, fisherman, Packer backer, and Braves fan. He loved God’s great outdoors, and enjoyed spending time with his family. His friends and family members will remember him as a gentleman, a dedicated father and Christian, as well as a hard worker. The funeral is scheduled for Thursday, June 20th at the Floral Hills Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at Saint Mark Lutheran Church. Pastor Hiruy Gebremichael will officiate.
