Doris was a member of First Baptist Church Monroe, and she lived out her faith daily — not just in words, but in action. She prayed faithfully for her family and friends. Her relationship with the Lord guided every part of her life, and she now rests in the eternal peace she so confidently believed in.
Above all, she was an extraordinary mother. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. She loved without limits and without conditions. She was their steady place, their safe place, and their constant source of encouragement. No phone call ended without her saying, “I love you more.” No conversation passed without her asking with genuine care, “Are y’all doing okay?” Those simple words carried a lifetime of devotion, protection, and tenderness.
Doris retired after 32 years of dedicated service as Manager of Accounting at DeKalb Medical Center. She was respected for her integrity, leadership, and tireless work ethic. To her colleagues, she was dependable and wise. To her family, she was the foundation.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Buren Adams, who passed away on February 23, 2022. Their marriage was a beautiful testimony of love, faith, and partnership. Though their time apart feels immeasurable to those who miss them, we find comfort knowing they are reunited in Heaven.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Lemuel Jackson Shelnutt, Jr. and Ora Belle Shelnutt.
Doris is survived by her four children: Ken McCullough (Penny McCullough), Todd McCullough (Kim McCullough), Kathy Schraub (John Schraub), and Kimberly Bolling (Kim Brian Bolling).
She was a proud and devoted grandmother to nine grandchildren: Brandon, Gage, Shelby, Bailey, Micky, Craig, Amanda, Jesse, Taylor; and a loving great-grandmother to great-grandchildren: Emma Rose, Daniel, Thomas, Marlee, Rayleigh, and Britley.
She is also survived by her siblings, Anne Keels (William Keels) and Libby Pitner, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Serving as pallbearers are Craig Pinholster, Josh Owen, John Schraub, Kim Bolling, Todd McCullough, Jarod Mordecai
Doris’ life was marked by kindness, strength, generosity, and unwavering faith. She loved deeply, gave freely, and prayed constantly. Her legacy will live on in every “I love you more,” in every check-in of “Are y’all doing okay?”, and in every whispered prayer offered on behalf of those she loved.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, we rejoice knowing she is whole, healed, and home with Jesus. Her life was a blessing. Her memory will forever be a treasure.
