Dorothy Huggins was a longtime residence of Decatur, GA. She has spent the last few years in Covington, GA overlooking the lake she so dearly loved and reflecting on a lifetime of memories there. A very special thank you to her loving children who made this possible by taking care of her until the very end.
Dorothy…but to most of us she was affectionately known as “Grandma”…and what a fitting name because she was GRAND!! She loved her family fiercely and loved nothing better than being with us all. Our family gatherings were some of the very best…full of laughter, presents at Christmas, food and of course FISHING! Grandma was feisty and full of LIFE…a hard worker and very energetic. Dorothy enjoyed working, she worked at Lithonia Lighting and then later Sewell Plastics…if we could only bottle that energy! Grandma lived a beautiful and full life and boy did grandma ever know how to have fun! You could always find her on a river, beach or lake or in route to Myrtle Beach to meet up with her siblings for a week long fishing trip where great times were always had by all. Another thing she was passionate about…working in her yard. Grandma’s yard was always perfectly manicured. First thing in the mornings as soon as her feet would hit the ground, she was in her yard picking up every single pine cone that had fallen the day before…she kept the trash men busy hauling off all the sticks and pine cones.
Her favorite saying was, “Lord how mercy” and no one could use that phrase like her. Dorothy and her husband Wofford were actively involved in Pine Lake Baptist Church for many years; where they faithfully attended Sunday school, church and was actively involved in the ministries of cooking, maintaining the church grounds and Dorothy’s favorite; the nursing home ministry where she traveled weekly to bless the residents by singing the precious old time hymnals.
Loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend, Dorothy will be dearly missed. She was 95 beautiful years young and wore it well. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Gregory and Hattie Pittman; husband, Wofford Huggins and daughter, Brenda Williams; sisters, Dora Smith, Bea Thomas and Jessie Smith; brothers, Jasper and Edward Pittman.
