She attended Crogman Elementary School, Turner High School, Morris Brown College and Georgia State University. At an early age, Dorothy decided she would be an English Teacher; however, after working at Grady Hospital for years as a Business Manager, Dorothy changed her mind and became a Business Major. After decades of working at Grady Hospital and the Emory foundation (at Grady), Dorothy ventured out as an entrepreneur and opened SS Medical Technology Services, a medical billing and consulting company, in 1990, and oversaw the business as President and CEO until her departure from this Earth. She also ventured into other types of businesses, such as medical transportation and wedding services. In 1995 Dorothy was listed as Who’s Who in Black Atlanta’s Small Businesses.
Besides her entrepreneurial skills, she always made time along with her husband to serve others including visiting the sick in hospitals and nursing homes and performing street ministry by feeding people in underserved communities. Her other skills included being a counselor, an encourager, and a problem solver for many people of all ages. As a member of Mount Moriah Church in Tucker, GA, Dorothy served in the Bell Choir Ministry, as a Greeter and as an adult Bible Study Facilitator.
