I first became friends with Phil in the 7th grade at Hill St. Jr. High in Lagrange. We were cast in the play "Wildcat Willie's Lie Detector." We became great friends at Lagrange High, along with Marvin Williams, Hueal Walls, and Homer Borders. We  spent almost every weekend night together riding around LaGrange, shooting pool,  talking, and dreaming  about girls we never could date. Phil had a Corvair, and he insisted the heater ran off of gasoline, so he would give us the choice of having heat or riding a little longer. Phil went off to UGA, Marvin to Ga Tech, Hueal to Emory at Oxford and I to LaGrange College.  After college, we lost touch with each other for a while, but then in 1971, after my active duty, I joined the AF Reserves at Dobbins ARB in Marietta, and who should greet me but Phil! We once more got to spend time together. We didn't see each other much after that , but I occasionally would travel to Atlanta, and we'd go out to eat and reminisce . I was very shocked and tremendously saddened when his son informed me of his passing. Phil was like a brother to me, and I'll always treasure his friendship and his memory.  

We were friends since 7th grade Hill Street Jr. High. I loved him.
