Martha was born on October 31, 1926 in Nashville, TN. Beloved daughter of Katherine and Edward Farley, little sister to Ed Jr and Robert. After Martha graduated from high school, she moved to Atlanta where she met the love of her life, Paul Harvey. Paul and Martha were married 46 years until his death at the age of 69. Paul and Martha adored each other and his early death was extremely difficult for her. The support of her loving family and many friends helped her begin to carry on with her life.
Paul and Martha had 3 children, Elizabeth, Stephen and Alicia. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her much joy in life. In her last few years seeing her little great grandchildren come through the door to see their GG never failed to light up her face. She was truly blessed to live long enough to get to know them.
Martha was someone who was loved by many. She just had a way about her that made people care about her. Even people she barely knew. Her family used to laugh at her ability to influence (without knowing she was doing so) strangers in to giving her things for free. She would say…..I don’t know why they did that ….as her family shook their heads and chuckled.
Martha retired from Bell South where she worked in the Treasury Department. She was also an active member of Briarlake Baptist Church for many years until she moved to Grace Healthcare in March of 2018.
Martha is survived by daughters Elizabeth Ballard (Alan) and Alicia Harvey, son Stephen Harvey (Judy). Grandchildren Amy Pope (David) and Melissa Brawner (Kevin). Great Grandchildren Matthew Pope, Luke Brawner, Grace Brawner and Cole Brawner. She is also survived by her beloved cousins Ann King and Nell Graham (who were more like sisters than cousins) and her long time best friend Virginia Harrington. Lastly her well loved kitty Sweet Pea. She used to say that Sweet Pea was so attached to her that she was going to have to take her with her when she went to heaven. No worries….Sweet Pea is being well taken care of by Elizabeth.
Martha will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Memories of her quirky sense of humor and sweet demeanor will continue on in our hearts. We are at peace knowing she is with her beloved Paul and is no longer struggling.
Services for Martha will be held Saturday, March 16th at 11:00 at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 prior to the service on Saturday. There will also be a reception at the Floral Hill’s Funeral Home for family and friends following the burial.
If you would like to make a donation instead of flowers, the family prefers the American Diabetes Association as Diabetes has affected Martha’s family in many ways.
