Mary Elizabeth Hugo Williams, age 80 of Lilburn, Georgia, passed away on October 26, 2024 after a short but valiant fight against Leukemia. Born on May 3, 1944, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Mary dedicated her life to her family and volunteering throughout her community, leaving a legacy of love, service and kindness for all who had the joy of meeting her.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late H.L. Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Alda Hugo, and brother Bob Hugo. Mary is survived by her sons, Robert Williams and David Williams (Courtney); daughter Cathy Rummage (Bob); sisters, Peggy Lavenson (Markus) and Kay Hugo; grandchildren, Alex, Megan, Michael and Madison; grand-puppies, Deuce, Piper, and Teddy.
While most people knew Mary as a volunteer and friend to the community, to the family she was a wonderful mom and Nana. In both roles, she played- and lost- thousands of Uno games, never won a game of Life, listened and laughed to a million stories, and showered her children, grandchildren, and grand-puppies with endless love and support. Mary was always present for any event that she could attend, and her family knew that there was always someone rooting for them in their corner.
She had a passion for volunteering, starting as a Cub Scout den leader, then spending over twenty years as a Camp Fire Girls leader throughout Gwinnett County impacting the lives of hundreds of children and their families. After Mary’s time working with her children, and those in the community, she shifted to volunteering with the Department of Family and Children's Services to arrange for donations and delivery of gifts for children during Easter, Back to School and Christmas.
As Mary worked as the President of the Lawrenceville Fun Time Senior Recreation Club at Bethesda Park, she became friends with the staff at the Gwinnett Veterans Memorial Museum. Ultimately, the ladies and gentlemen at this organization became her driving force. She would volunteer multiple days per week, join them with meetings and meals and assisted with integrating the museum into various community events throughout Gwinnett County.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, located at 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084. The service will begin at 2:00 PM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gwinnett Veterans Memorial Museum. Mary’s warmth and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to shine through the lives she touched.
Floral Hills Funeral Home and Memory Gardens is handling the arrangements, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084, (770) 491-3021.
