It is with the utmost sadness and praise that we three heartbroken daughters announce the sudden passing of our dearest father and hero Dr. Naushad Ali Kheraj on May 7, 2024. The devoted eldest son of loving parents Bollywood movie producer Abdul Hussein Kheraj and Fatima Kheraj, was born September 18, 1944 in Mumbai, India. He often called his siblings Farida, Noorjhan (with father),Naaz (with father), Yasmin, Sultana, Muhammad, Shiraz and their children, his children. He pledged his life for their success.
From a young age, father found his calling to care for those in need. He attended S.I.E.S. College, and Grant medical College in India and was a brilliant mind and physician. Father had a clinic open every weekend with a line down the street where he would treat ill in need patients at no cost. He volunteered for the Red Cross in the Bangladesh war and even operated on patients on the side of the road.
He met the love of his life Sunanda in Mumbai who as a nurse cared for patients with leprosy and whose heart he said, was pure as gold. Their love was deeper and stronger than anything we could describe to you. They married against all odds as father was Muslim and mother Hindu. Charitable work fed his soul but not his family’s stomach therefore he and mom made the difficult decision to leave beloved India and move to California. He then sponsored his entire extended family to come to the United States as well. He always thought of others first.
Father’s love for medicine continued as a brilliant Chief of Interventional Cardiology, an MD, FACC. We fondly remember him coming home from the hospital tired but proud and grateful, never taking pay from those who did not have. He would always say I have a gift, people need me and they show gratitude how they can. He and our angel mother raised us daughters in a kind, loving happy home in La Canada California. Education was paramount as was family and honor. He was so proud of his three girls Reshma, Rachana and Rakhi who grew to be engineers and doctors and his son in laws. He absolutely loved his grandchildren Nayan and Anara. He cherished every hug and nap he had with them offering gifts, kisses and sweets to show them Grandpa’s love.
When he spoke of our mom, dad said their love was a true eternal love story like the movie Bombay and she was the most beautiful person he had ever seen inside and out. A true angel on earth. Father’s smile, and passion did not leave his face until his dear wife Nanda’s tragic untimely passing in 2003 from cancer at the age of 50. During her illness, my father slept in the hospital room in a chair for eight months, never leaving her side. All the while taking his CCU rounds to care for others. He never remarried. He showed his daughters how to be loved for a lifetime. Father had a genuine charisma, sense of humor, brilliance, and passion unrivaled. His fierce devotion to his family, his passion for medicine and helping all in need, his true deep love and respect for momma will never be forgotten.
Like the solar storm father brought us the day after his passing with brilliant hues in the sky, Dr. Naushad Ali Kheraj is a shining, brilliant, loyal, fierce, handsome star. He will never be extinguished or forgotten. Father always wanted to be with his Nanda but did not want to leave his children and grandchildren behind. You can be at peace in mom’s arms now daddy. You will always be our protector.
Funeral services will be at Floral Hills Cemetery and Memorial Garden, Tucker Georgia. May 14, 12 pm.
