"Now go out and make it a Great Day!" That was Pete's message to everyone who called your home.  I am shocked and saddened to hear he is no longer with us.  After the most recent hip surgery I was expecting to see him the summer of 2014 running up and down the stairs during 'Reading for Results'. My heart goes out to Maggui and David. One of God's children has gone home to him but he will always be here in spirit. We will miss you Pete!

My condolences to the family and continued prayers for all. Over the years as I have experienced losses I have grown to understand the meaning when we talk about celebrating someone's life. We must celebrate Pete and his life here. I, like all, feel a great sadness that Pete and I won't be able to share emails and phone calls again. We talked about getting together again but the distance and demands of life never allowed it and for that I am sad. It is difficult for us to rejoice when someone close passes away but we can rejoice in knowing Pete is with his eternal father and we will meet again.

Since I met Pete during our days at ECU I have always thought of him as a good and faithful friend. He will be missed.

I have known  Maggui and Pete for a very long time through many of life's ups and down. Throughout it all Pete always had a smile and a good word to say. He will be greatly missed. My love goes out to  Maggui and David . Love

Zach informed us last night of Pete's death.  We are so sorry to hear about this and would have definitely been at the service yesterday morning had we known.  We have many fond memories of living next door to you and then down the street on Willivee Place and many memories of the boys playing and growing up together.  I know there is a huge void in your hearts right now.  Please know that we are all thinking of you and remembering a wonderful man.

Pete's unwavering optimism and steadfast friendship were always in inspiration for me, as well as for many, many others.  He will be deeply missed.

I am saddened to hear about Pete's illness and death. Having lost several of my own family to lung cancer, I know that it is hard on the people who love the person who is ill. I worked with Pete and cannot think of a nicer more helpful person.

My sincerest condolences to you and all the family.  Have been traveling and just got word of the service and wish I could have joined you.  Pete and I had some great times together growing up in the 'berg..1962 winter...."Mama J" gave me my first cup of coffee when Pete and I came in from the snow when we were "running the jeep"......I'll never forget the boost it gave me and they just laughed and laughed.............he was quite a trombone player in the band and always could sing..............so talented.............so many wonderful memories and now Pete is with his parents in the heavens..........what a blessing although I know you will sorely miss him.............may God always hold all of you in His palm, and may you be richly blessed. Today we celebrate the life of an incredible man! In the 16 years that I've know him I've never seen him get angry once, or upset (even when Deej left all the cords out in his room and ended up tripping Maggui!). He was a beacon of light to all that knew him and I am a better person for knowing him. It has been a joy to grow up with Maggui and Pete as my second parents! What an incredible angel we have watching over us now! We love you, Pete!!!

When thinking of Pete, we just have to smile. That's how we see him, always smiling with a positive word, encouraging others, laughing and bringing joy and humor into our lives. Words cannot express our sorrow for Maggui and her family. We rejoice that Pete is now free from pain and with the Lord although the pain of loss is great for us. Our prayers and thoughts are with you Maggui.

We are so deeply saddened by Pete's passing. He was a blessing to all who knew him. Pete always had a positive attitude, kind word and a smile. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Maggui, David and family during this difficult time. We will miss him dearly.

Maggui and David-we were so sorry to hear of Pete's passing. He was always ready with jokes to entertain the kids when they came to you for tutoring.  What a wonderful teaching team you had!! Hundreds of kids have been blessed to know Pete and Maggui Joyner.
Mauggui tutored my three kids in the early nineties, and she had tutored one of my Grandsons. Many children and parents felt loved and secure coming to Pete and Maggui's house. I grew up with Pete in Louisburg, NC and was a classmate through high school.  I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing.  I know he will be missed by many people.

Somehow, no matter what was going on, Pete conveyed a sense of joy and optimism that enriched our lives. He was a friend and mentor to Konstantin and a friend and inspiration to me. We give thanks for his presence and his life.

It is very hard to write this because we are all in such shock over the loss of such a good friend. Pete has been a part of our life and family since 2000 and we will miss him terribly.  Our son's, Nick & Quinton tutored with Maggui for most of their school career and both Pete and Maggui became so important to our whole family. Our love and prayers go out to Maggui and David during this most difficult time.

Although we have not seen the Joyners since our children were very small, we fondly remember time spent with Pete, Maggui and David.  Sarah found out about Pete's death because she is on Facebook with David.  Both Sarah and Sashi remember swimming in your pool and your three legged cat.  We are thinking of you during this time.

My son Sean started "Reading for Results" and then tutoring with Maggiu a couple of years ago. Although I haven't had a lot of contact with Pete when I did he was always a wonderful man. Once I had mentioned how beautiful the flowers around the house were to Maggiu. While I was waiting for Sean's tutoring to finish Pete came to my car with a fresh cutting of one of the flowers. He and Maggiu both are wonderful thoughtful people. I pray that Maggiu and David are comforted in knowing that he touched so many peoples lives in such wonderful ways.

Although we have not seen the Joyners since our children were very small, we have fond memories of Maggui,Pete and David. Sarah knew of Pete's death because she is Facebook friends with David.  Both she and Sashi remember swimming at the Joyner's pool and their three legged cat. We are thinking of you during this hard time.

Pete was an absolute delight, always funny and positive... Cannot believe he is gone from us... Paul and I send our love and heartfelt sympathy to Maggui, David and family...

Pete and I grew up 4 blocks from each other in Louisburg. I have lost other friends and classmates over the years but, for some reason, this loss is different.  He has been in my prayers and now my thoughts keep going back to him and his family.

Pete and I hadn't seen each other in decades but what a pleasure it was to get back in touch with him through Facebook.

When we were living in Louisburg I knew him as a kind, considerate, talented, and always polite young man.  Over the last few years, I have learned about his generosity; his passion for doing the right thing; his dedication to his family and friends, his country, and his God; his positive outlook; and his amazing strength which I think came from his closeness to his Lord and Savior.

Many mourn his loss but we know he is in a wonderful place.  I will pray for comfort for his dear family.

Obviously, since we were 1st cousins, I have known Pete all my life.  We didn't exactly grow up together as I am 15 years younger, but he has always been a part of my life.  Although Atlanta has been his home for many years and I live in Louisburg we didn't have as much time to spend together as we would have liked we stayed in touch and I always felt I could call and ask advice and he was always willing to give me honest caring opinions.  Pete was a fine man. I will miss him greatly.

What a prince of a man! We first met Pete over thirty years when he was helping patients at Georgia Mental Health Institute and living in nearby Decatur with his cosmopolitan wife Maggui. He remained loyally in contact with his mom and family in North Carolina. He joined our business team and we grew together, enjoying trips all over the world, especially memorable at Peter Island, B.V.I. After GMHI closed, Pete and Maggui poured themselves into countless students as tutors and teachers. I can remember many times hearing his voice on WGST singing the glories of Reading for Results. He always ended that answering service with his catch phrase, "Now go out and make it a great day." He certainly made a lot of our days great. He didn't do so bad at night either, entertaining at a supper club in Snellville just for fun. Although a nominal church member for years, Pete and Maggui became much more involved in Northpoint/Buckhead Church, even singing in the choir. Their new estate in Tucker became the location for a legendary annual Holiday party that we always looked forward to. At that home they poured themselves into their best student, their gifted son, David, and were never more proud than at his graduations and his wedding this past year to Caitlin. Pete had suffered severely with hip and leg pain in recent years and had just turned that corner on that with a new replacement, only to be hit with this new diagnosis. With his typically chipper attitude, Pete was ready to tackle this challenge when he was blind-sided at the start of treatment. What a shock and a loss to us all. Our only relief is in knowing that his pain is over and his joy is full, no doubt, singing enthusiastically right in the front of the heavenly hosts. Maggui, David, Caitlin and Chris, May God fill with his presence the void left in your hearts by Pete's passing. As the Christian decorations that Pete rushed to put out before Thanksgiving attest, we have the hope of resurrection and reunion. It's Friday, but Sunday's coming. We love the Joyners.

Our children, Emma & Joe, started tutoring with Maggui about 9 years ago, so we got to know Pete through Maggui. Pete was a fine man. He was kind, patient, and generous. He will be sorely missed.

Stephen and I have a commitment to fulfill our service pledge on Saturday for the Be Rich campaign for the church. We discussed cancelling it and attending the service for Pete but what we know is that is not what he would want us to do. Because he loved God and had such a big heart, service to our community and to people in need was a top priority for him. Therefore,  we decided that it would honor him more if we dedicated this time to the Gwinnett Community Co-op. As we serve we will be thinking of Pete and Maggui and Dave and praying for peace and comfort.

Pete was a friend to one and all and made everyone feel special.   As childhood friend, he was kind and sensitive beyond his years.   Although we hadn't seen each other for over 40 years he stayed in touch giving us all a glimpse of his wonderful life here on earth.

We know that he is with his Lord and will have eternal life.
