Obituary of Ray E. CONNER
Ray Ernest Conner, our precious Daddy and Pee-Maw, 93, passed into Heaven’s gates on May 11, 2022 Ray was born December 23, 1928 to Cecil Ernest Conner and Nettie Allison Powers Conner, of Nashville, Tennessee. He is the fourth of six children. Ray was married to Sue Ellen Peery Conner (deceased in 2003), and is survived by his daughter Kimberly Sue Conner Loredo (Anthony) and his only grandchild, Teresa Sue Loredo. He is also survived by daughter Stephanie Lou Conner. Additionally, Ray is survived by his sisters Marjorie Conner VanSteenKiste and Lois Conner Draper. Ray is a graduate of Austin Peay State University in Clarkesville, Tennessee, and proudly served his country in the Army during the occupation of Japan at the end of WWII. Ray played football during high school, college and on the All Army football team, while stationed in Japan. Ray retired in 1999 after a long career with the Social Security Administration. Ray was very proud of his two Commissioners Citations from the Social Security Administration for his service working in Florida with Cuban and Haitian refugees in the early 1980’s. Prior to that, he worked with the State of Tennessee Disability Determinations Unit. During the 1960’s, Ray also was a teacher at Miami Jackson High School in Miami, Florida. Ray was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church in Tucker, where he served for many years as an usher, greeter, Sunday School teacher, and worked on the parking committee. He also served for many years as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Clarkston Shores Corporation, and served as Secretary of the LaVista Lions Club. As part of the Lions Club, Ray worked on many barbeque fundraisers, raising money to help provide seeing-eye dogs for the blind, as well as other charities. Ray also helped start a mission church in Cumming, Georgia (First Redeemer Church), and while living in Baltimore, MD, helped start a church there (South Carroll Church of the Nazarene, in Sykesville, MD). Homegoing services for Ray will be Friday, May 20, 2022 at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084 (across from Rehoboth Baptist Church). Visitation will begin at Noon and go up until the time of the service, which begins at 2:00 p.m. Full military honors will be given at the gravesite. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the CONNER family.
