So very sorry for your loss Aunt Norma,  
I am Jean Cowart, Eugene Cowart's youngest daughter.  Very sorry to hear of Uncle Vernon's passing.  Sorry I could not make the  funeral.  I have very fond memories of Uncle Vernon.  You and the family will be in my prayers.  Take care of yourself

These are some comments that I offered at my Dad's service:

Thank you for coming here to remember my Dad.

I think one of his first loves was his beautiful hometown of Savannah.  He loved to tell stories about growing up there, especially his job at the  ice cream parlor owned by the two Mr. Leopolds.  He liked to describe his favorite flavors.

He told stories about all the girls he dated in Savannah, and we would watch as Mom would just roll her eyes.

Dad served in WWII and Korea as a Marine and frequently he would tell us about some of his military buddies.  Mom would try to stop him if she knew the story was going to get a little bawdy.

My father frequently referred to his beloved mother Ruth and often we would hear how Mom did not cook something exactly the way his mom had.  I was always especially intrigued with how he claimed that grandma Ruth could fry eggs that would look the color of the rainbow.  

But Mom was his great true love and they were married 69 years. I can still remember as a little girl watching them get ready to go out dancing.  I thought they were the most beautiful people in the world.

My Dad loved to dance, he loved to play cards, he was a wonderful photographer, but I remember him most with a book in his hand.   Dad could also be a practical joker.  He and my maternal grandfather once told a bartender in New Orleans that Dad was a photographer for Life Magazine.  She immediately bought a round for everyone in the bar and started posing for this young man with all the camera equipment.  He got a lot of good photos that day.

Those of you who knew my Dad know that as a retired Marine officer he was very orderly.  He always dressed very well and his shoes always had a fresh shine.  My partner Diane said he was a dapper kind of guy.

Lastly, Dad always said that he had picked a good one (meaning my mother) and it seemed that he depended on her a thousand times a day, every day, and Mom never let him down.

Vernon was a special person, who will be greatly missed by family and friends.

This is Ruth, Eugene's daughter.  I am so sorry to hear of Uncle Vernon passing away.  He was always a favorite of mine as I always thought he was so handsome!  He always reminded me of Sean Connery (James Bond actor).  Please accept my heartfelt sorrow and my love to you. I know that we have not seen each other through the years, but my kids remember when we came to visit you and Uncle Vernon and you took us out to eat.  LOVE, Ruth Cowart Morris
