William Thomas Stephens, age 90, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2022 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Jane Stephens; daughter Kathy Stephens, son Michael (Cynthia) Stephens. Grandchildren, Michael D (Catrina) Stephens, Christopher (Briana) Riddell, Cody Riddell, Taylor Riddell (Brad Dixon), Colby (Ryan) Webb and Caleb Riddell. Great- grandchildren, Isaiah and Savannah Stephens, Emersyn Riddell and Jack Webb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tirrie and Bessie Stephens, sisters Sara Mullins and Ann Stephens, brother Jack Stephens and grandson Joseph Woolfolk. He attended Georgia Tech and Southern Tech University and held a degree in Building Construction and Design.
When he left college he proudly served in the Air Force. He earned his wings and developed a love of flying. He served his country actively for 4 years as a 1st Lieutenant and then was in the Reserves for 15 years where he was promoted to Captain. He traded his wings for a hammer and nails and went into construction. In the early 70s he opened William T Stephens Construction Company, Inc. His business flourished because everything he built was to perfection. He made many deals with a handshake. If you shook his hand it was as good or better than a signed contract. In 1974 he designed and built his and Jane’s dream home. It has a unique style and vision that only he had. In 2001 he hung up his tool belt and focused on his family which then consisted of 6 grandchildren that affectionately called him “Grandsir”. The name was so fitting because he certainly was a “Grand Sir”.
He will always be remembered for his gentle way,his ideal character, his honestly and integrity. And his overwhelming desire to help someone. When he did lend that helping hand it was done quietly.
His legacy and influence will live on but he will be missed greatly by his family and all those that loved him.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Friday, November 4th at 11:00 am. There will be visitation from 10am until 11:00am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the wonderful life of Bill Stephens.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to Parkinson’s Foundation, Tunnel2Towers or Patriots Guard.
