A friend from the neighborhood growing up, and a homeroom buddy in HS.  I fondly remember him working in his dad's store, Gerber Hardware.

It hits us very hard to realize a special person in our lives has died.  Barry was a friend, a true friend, from high school and then in college.  We kept in touch rarely and now face the sad consequences that we SHOULD have spoken more, seen each other - all the "should haves".  Please know that we are very sorry he lost the fight of his life and we lost a chance to say goodbye in person. He will always have a special place in our hearts and memories. I will never forget Barry. He was a wonderful man who always gave to others. Barry was the first to hire our son, dispite his legal and medical issues. Barry guided Jim and provided the mentorship that resulted in Jim's eventual certification as a Paramedic while becoming a wonderful husband and father. When Jim died on September 10, 2003 Barry was instrumental in arranging the wonderful memorial for Jim at the Avera Valley Fire Station. The entire EMS and Fire community has lost one of their finest. Barry - Melissa and I will miss you and trust you and Jim have met again.

Barry was an awesome man with a wonderful heart.  I feel very blessed to have had him as a part of my life.  Now you and my dad can talk fireman things.  Love and will miss you Barry rest in peace
