Charlotte W. Stoss of Tucson, Arizona passed away August 5th, 2018 exactly 2 months shy of her 90th birthday. She was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 5th, 1928. She was married to Peter Stoss (deceased 1999) and is survived by her children Irene, Vilma and Walter.
Charlotte had a passion for gardening, cooking, drawing, painting, sewing and embroidery. She loved animals and thought they would starve unless they received scraps from her plate. Amazingly enough they would always be glued to her side when she walked in the door. She was playful, a jokester and enjoyed playing hide and go seek with her granddaughters, Naomi and Omani Rose, when they were young. She had the great combination of being both handy and artistic. She would jerry-rig her gardening tools so she could continue her passion of climbing ladders and pruning trees and shrubs (we referred to her as an obsessive pruner) well into her 80s. She made the best Argentinian empanadas and learned to cook up fantastic Croatian meals (especially pastries) from our father who was from Croatia. She loved the outdoors and we all have fond memories of camping, hiking and swimming as a family during weekends, holidays and summer vacations.
She and our father Peter made the bold sacrifice to move to the US in 1961 to pursue improved opportunities for our family, first living in New Jersey and then moving to Arizona. Prior to that she was a translator and assistant at Kaiser Automotive plant in Cordoba, Argentina. As we got a little older she set up her own business and worked in retail for 25 years. She traveled back to her beloved Argentina frequently to visit her relatives and friends whom she sorely missed. She loved to travel and experience new places as well.
We know she was a badass motorcycle rider when she was young and fiercely independent after our father passed away.
She had some hard knocks in her life, as a child losing her father at a young age to tuberculosis and then at the end of her life she fought the good fight against dementia. She always maintained her sense of humor during the most challenging of times. We learned that laughter and a smile can brighten up anyone’s day. We will remember her as the best Mom, a kind, hardworking and generous soul devoted to her family. We will miss her with all our hearts, but the good memories and the knowledge that she is at peace and getting the rest she deserves brings us comfort.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Charlotte Stoss. Please reference the “Charlotte Stoss Tribute Fund”.
Her interment and brief service will take place 9AM Friday August 10th at East Lawn Palms 5801 E. Grant Rd Tucson, AZ 85712. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday August 11th from 1-4PM at 5916 N. Placita del Conde, Tucson, AZ 85718.
