Dan L Stringham, 71, passed away April 7, 2012 in Tucson, Arizona, due to complications from pneumonia and diabetes. He was with his loving wife Linda and his children at the time of his passing. Dan had a strong heart and spirit that did not want to quit, even though his body was worn out and finally gave up.
Dan was born February 22, 1941 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Lawrence Edward “Buzz” and Eda May “Mike” Stringham. He grew up in Murray, Utah with his sister and two brothers. He was a proud Murray Spartan.
Dan was always independent, a trait he inherited from his Dad. He worked from a very young age in the fields to earn money for himself. In high school he worked at FG Ferre to get enough money for a car, and then there was no stopping him. After graduating from Murray High School, Dan enlisted in the Navy and worked as a medical corpsman in San Diego. He was a strong supporter of the military throughout his life and contributed generously to the Navy Seal Foundation.
After the Navy, Dan worked for the Utah State Highway Department and became a licensed surveyor. He found his true passion in civil engineering and construction project management. He worked with many partners on numerous construction projects throughout the mountain west. He was a successful businessman, starting several companies including Yellow Rose Construction. His work led him to Tucson where he has lived since the 1980s. He loved his work.
Dan was a loving husband and father. He married Linda Lucas in 2000. He dearly loved his five children and 15 grandchildren. He was a mentor to the boys and had a special place in his heart for all of “his girls”. He had many “adopted kids” as well that looked up to him and loved him like their own Dad. Dan had so very many friends and relatives that love and will miss him.
Dan loved boating, Princess cruises, trips with the family, fishing, shooting, western music, big bands, John Wayne, U of A, and U of U, cowboy boots, yellow roses, sunflowers, and his dogs and cats, but mostly his family. We'll miss you Dan!
Dan is survived by his wife Linda, children Mark (Laurie), Cheri (Tres), Melissa (Ryan), Russell (Katrina), and Robyn; sister Pat; brothers Guy (Marie) and Frank (Vincy); grandchildren; Uncle Gene and Aunt Elaine; cousin Dean; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by mother, Mike and father, Buzz.
The family would like to thank the caring doctors, nurses and staff in the ICU at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Funeral services at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 E. Grant Road, Tucson, Wednesday, April 11 at 2:00 pm. Viewing at 1:00 prior to services. Interment: Bingham City Cemetery, Utah.
