Our condolence and sympathy goes out to you and the family. Uncle Dave was a wonderful person to me and my family. My kids just admired him, he made Ashley's 20th birthday wishes come true when he unexpectedly showed up at her party prior to going to work and he treated Adam as one of his own. Although Robbie never really knew Uncle Dave the first time he met him, he wanted to impress him with tricks on the trampoline. He would yell out repeatedly “Uncle Dave watch me” and Uncle Dave called back “ok boy I am” (Big step for Robbie considering how shy he is) 
We cherish the memories of the many weekends we all spent together playing volleyball, taking an excursion in the country, listening to good music, laughing, joking, and sometimes the evening would  culminate with one of Uncle Dave's famous dismounts.
 He always had unique words of encouragement, like when I decided to run in an election for my first Union job, I asked him what he thought and he said:  “Well Hoss, someone needs to do it, might as well be you”.  
But we most admired Uncle Dave for how he supported his family, treated his friends, his love for his kitties and work ethic. 
It was once said by a famous religious leader that: 
For when a man works he not only alters things and society, he develops himself as well. He learns much, he cultivates his resources, and he goes outside of himself and beyond himself. Rightly understood, this kind of growth is of greater value than any external riches which can be garnered and a person is more precious for what he is, than for what he has.
Uncle Dave was the type of person who would unconditionally give you the shirt off his back and he did in many cases. We share your in your sorrow and we were honored to be a part of his life, although he didn't come around much in the later years it was always a comfort knowing he was there and would help, if needed. 
Robert Kennedy once said: Our society- all our values, our views of each other, and our own self-esteem; the contributions we can make ourselves, our families, and the community around us- All these things are built on the work we do.
It's one of my favorite quotes and I have cherished all it for many years and it's a quote for many of the people in our society like Uncle Dave who work so hard and unknowingly create a bond among people in the world around them. 
He truly sacrificed for others not asking much in return. We will miss him.
