

Don was born February 15, 1941 in Dunbar, PA, the son of the late Gerald and Ruby Humphreys Cable. He is survived by his loving children, Eric Cable, and LaChelle Kyte (Mark), and two grandsons whom he cherished, Ethan and Spencer Kyte, all of Tucson, AZ. He is also survived by his younger brother, of whom he was very close, Rick Cable, also of Tucson, AZ, as well as nephew Brandon Valdez of Tucson, AZ and niece Carly Cable of Phoenix, AZ and nieces Pamela Cable and Heidi Gulisek of Mt. Pleasant, PA. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his older brother, Gerald “Bud” Cable and sister-in-law, Barbara Cable.
Don was a 1959 graduate of Connellsville High School in Connellsville, PA. Upon graduation, Don worked as a tool and die maker for Anchor Hocking in Connellsville, PA. Later, he started his career with Southern Pacific Railroad, where he worked for over 20 years before retiring in 2008. His career as a brakeman and switchman for the railroad brought him out west allowing him to experience a variety of interesting towns and countryside. He eventually set roots in Tucson and quickly became a huge fan of the University of Arizona sports teams sharing many exciting moments cheering on his Wildcats alongside his family.
Don’s love of music was always a big part of his life. He spent many years in Connellsville and surrounding areas hosting and DJing dances that brought in both nationally known and local groups to perform and entertain the crowd. His extensive knowledge of music was impressive, which served him well during his time as a DJ for WCVI radio. He had a true appreciation of music that included everything from the Vogues to modern day chart toppers. His love of sports was also a big part of his life, especially rooting on his Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates and sharing his knowledge of sports with his grandsons. In addition, Don loved to travel and had many great experiences visiting places with his family.
Don’s love for his family was unsurpassed. He was front and center at every holiday and special occasion involving his loved ones. Don was a genuine man who treasured his many friendships, and he would frequently share stories about his wonderful memories of Connellsville and longtime friends who were near and dear to his heart. All who knew and loved him will truly miss his kindness, compassion, and sense of humor.
The family would like to thank all who reached out with support, love, and kind words for Don.
