Dorothy Ann McCracken, 77 died Sunday, May 22nd 2016 at BeeHive Homes of Tucson, Arizona with her husband and family by her side.
Dorothy was born on October 5, 1938 in Warrensburg, Missouri to the late Henrietta and James Tracy. In 1956, she graduated from Wyandotte High in the upper tier of her class with the dream to be a missionary. Shortly after, she met her future husband and following a three week courtship, was married by a Justice of the Peace wedding in Miami, OK on February 8, 1957 to Dr. John W. McCracken, Jr. In February, 2016 they celebrated 59 years of marriage. Her aspirations for a professional career were set aside when she dedicated herself to her marriage and raising their five children. For over seven decades, Dorothy sacrificed herself personally and always put others before herself.
In her youth, she was often found in Warrensburg Missouri with her grandparents during summers. These precious times were later amplified with her love for crafts and needle work and her talents were more realized with the passing years. Her giving continued throughout her life to both loved ones and strangers. Despite a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s, she never stopped loving and giving. Her children were successful in their many endeavors when they witnessed their mother’s passion for life.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Dr. John W. McCracken, Jr., and her four children, Rochelle (McCracken) Kilmer, Mauri (McCracken) Loffler, Gregory McCracken and Michael McCracken; seventeen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her oldest son Chester McCracken, her mother and father.
