

He lived in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, with his parents and sister until he was 18, and left for college. He graduated from Ball State University and joined the Air Force. He completed his pilot training at Craig AFB, Alabama in 1967.
He and Carolyn we married in October, 1967. They had two daughters, Ashley and Julie.
Ed flew the B-52 in combat in Vietnam; he transitioned to the HH-53 Super Jolly Green rescue helicopter and completed another tour at DaNang, Vietnam, where he rescued downed pilots and crew. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Bronze Star Medal among many other medals and citations. He was the Support Group Commander at DM AFB in Tucson; he was professor of Aerospace Science AFROTC, at the University of Arizona. Upon retiring from the Air Force in 1994, with the rank of full Colonel, he became the Director of the Pima Air Museum for nine years. Upon retiring from that position, he became the Executive Administrator at Pantano Christian Church. Although Ed had successful and varied careers, he knew that coming to faith in Jesus Christ was his highest calling. Because of Jesus, he was a faithful husband; a proud, devoted and loving father; a committed grandfather; a friend, a patriot, a mentor to many--a man loved by many.
In 2005, Ed travelled to Ghana, West Africa, and felt a deep call the start work there to help with community transformation and evangelism. The work that was started was Heartbeat for Africa. He loved people, and God opened his heart for the people of Africa.
Ed is survived by Carolyn, his wife and constant companion of 53 years; his beloved daughters, Julie Goetz, and Ashley Romero; son-in-law, Eric Goetz; four grandchildren, Ashlyn Potter, Aubrie Romero, Mitchell Edward Harrow Potter, and Sam Averill; his sister Nancy Clark, and her husband Fred; his sister-in-law, Katie Herriott and husband, David; nieces: Lindsay Clark Ruiz, Jennifer Root-Evans, Sarah Pulliam, Julianna Bailey; nephews: Darren Clark, Craig Clark, Clay Bailey, Drew Sikorski, David Sikorski, John Root, and Michael Root; great nephews: Tyler Ruiz and Lucas Ruiz; great nieces, Renley Clark and Mackenna Clark.
Ed treasured you, his Family and friends, as gifts from God to bless his life. He loved all of us well.
