Evelyn L. (Mork) Ford, 90, of Tucson, Arizona and formerly a long time resident of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Flint, Michigan, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 9, 2025, with her family by her side. Evelyn, daughter of the late Anton P. and Hannah J. (Hanson) Mork, was born in Nelson Township, Wisconsin, on September 7, 1935.
Evelyn was raised in Alma, Wisconsin in the house that her great grandparents built. She graduated college with her teaching degree. She taught elementary education for 30 years, 25 of which were spent at Buffey Elementary School, Flint, Michigan. She was named “Retiree of the Year” by the State of Michigan. In an article published regarding this award, the following was stated: “The best testimony of her skills and reputation as a teacher were the number of parents who requested that their children be placed in her classroom. Her peers admired her. It was common to hear unsolicited remarks like, ‘I wish I could teach like her.’ Our profession was enriched by this dedicated educator. She will be missed.”
She and her husband retired to Sierra Vista, Arizona in 1991, and she later moved to Tucson, Arizona in 2012, following her husband’s death (2010).
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Gerald R. Ford, and her siblings: brothers – Alton Mork, Bernard Mork, Melvin Mork, Edward Mork, Marvin Mork, Donald Mork, and Gaylord Mork and sisters – Sonia Karen Mork (infant), Irene (Mork) Hermann, and Marian (Mork) McGrew.
She is survived by her sister, Marilyn (Mork) Wilson and her brother, Gary (Joyce) Mork; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her nieces, Erin Engelhart and Meegan Muse, for taking care of her during her last three years of life, most specifically to Erin as her daily live-in caregiver.
She will be cremated and a service will be held at a later date to inter her and Gerald together in a columbarium as per her wishes. She will remain forever in our hearts.
