Born April 15th 1924. Died July 22nd 2022
At about 3 years old Evelyn’s mother, Augusta, emigrated from Germany to the United States through Ellis Island in 1904 with her mother Julia Shultz. They settled in Chicago. As time went on Augusta had a son, Clarence. She latter married Albert Michalski and gave birth to Evelyn. They soon divorced and Evelyn was put in foster care. Augusta later married Fred Niemann and he quickly adopted Evelyn, she was 4. He loved her as his own child. Fred and Augusta had 4 more children, Elaine, Shirley, Jackie and Fred jr. In the 30’s Fred lost his job in the “Great Depression” and the family fell on hard times. Around 1939 Fred was injured in a work related accident and lost his leg. Soon after Evelyn had to quit high school and go to work in a box factory to help support the family. The factory manufactured boxes for the war effort.
In 1946 she met Edward Gordon who had just returned home from WW II. After dating for 7 months they married in March of 1947. In July of 1947 they followed Edward’s father who moved out west to open a drug store, he was a Pharmacist. They all settled in Tucson. They had two sons, Lee and Timothy. Evelyn was not real sure of this “wild west” with the “lions, tigers, bears and scorpions” as she would say. But she loved Edward so much she would follow him anywhere and he worshiped her. They enjoyed traveling, camping, various hobbies, genealogy research and baby sitting their grandchildren. She loved decorating her home(of 64 years). She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, watching TV, and listening to classical music and always holidays and family gatherings.
Above all. She was passionately devoted to her family. She spent countless hours of her time teaching her children about values, morals, respect, and working habits. She also did her best at “kitchen table school tutoring” in all subjects!
She always put her family needs ahead of hers.
She will truly be missed.
She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Edward, sons, Lee and Tim, grandchildren, Sean, Anne and Jerry jr., sister Shirley and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
