George attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree. After working in Cleveland for three years, he relocated to Tucson, AZ in 1959. He worked for several architectural firms before joining Friedman and Jobusch, the largest firm in Tucson at that time. He had the opportunity to work on projects for several school districts, the City of Tucson, the University of Arizona, the Corps of Engineers, the General Services Administration, as well as private clients. After becoming Principal in the firm of Friedman, Keim and McFerron, George sold the firm and accepted a position at The University of Arizona as Assistant Director in the Facilities Design and Construction Department. He also was the ADA Facilities Coordinator for the Affirmative Action Office.
George was active with the American Institute of Architects and served as president of both the local and state chapters. He was also president of the local chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute. He continued his involvement with his college fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha, and acted for several years as advisor to the chapter at the University of Arizona.
Folllowing retirement from the University, George filled his spare time by volunteering. These efforts included Literacy Volunteers, Silver Sneakers, YMCA, City Commission on Disability Issues, Council of Senior Citizen Organizations, Pima Council on Aging, OASIS, Pima County Public Library, Red Cross, Regional Transportation Authority (CART Committee member), American Cancer Society and Handlers of Tucson. As a resident of Fellowship Square retirement community, George continued his volunteer activities in the Activities Office and as a greeter.
George enjoyed travel and one goal he set for himself was to visit 100 countries. He exceeded his goal by visiting 104.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Handlers of Tucson and YMCA of Southern Arizona.
